Instant and frequent updates to your TOG DE curriculum are a very important, beneficial feature of our new digital delivery system. However there are some things for you to understand before you update your Tapestry DE.

PLEASE READ THE BELOW INFORMATION CAREFULLY and UNDERSTAND THE PROCESS BEFORE IMPLEMENTING YOUR FIRST UPDATE.

A NORMAL feature of ALL updates will be that new files with OVERWRITE old files. Now, in files that don't have any corrections or changes, you won't notice a difference at all. But, for a file that WAS on your computer and IS updated, you will NOT be able to retrieve past copies. This is why we need everyone to understand what the DE updates entail. Smiler

We do not want you to lose the information in files that you want, so please note the following:

Whenever you update your TOG DE, what you are doing is re-downloading files to your computer. Because the new files will have identical names to the old ones, they will REPLACE old files. If the file is unchanged, you won't even notice a difference. However, if we are changing anything in that file, the old data will go away permanently.

This becomes important if you don't want to lose the content in "old" files.

EXAMPLE: Say a LG literature book goes out of print, and we at Lampstand Press choose a new book, place it into a replacement of the page 4 Reading Assignment Charts, and create a new worksheet on page 13. All well and good, unless you HAVE that book and want to have the worksheet and Reading Assignment Chart that still shows that page.

PLEASE NOTE:
1. Updates are not automatic. You can choose each and every one before it affects your files. (Except for Year 4 during the 2009-2010 school year, where each new unit released automatically updates all units.) However...

2. Updates are cumulative. If we make a change to Year 1 in January, and we then make the next change to Year 1 in March, all of January's changes are included in the March download.

EXAMPLE: We made that LG book change in January (which you didn't want) but now another book has gone out of print in March, this time for Upper Grammar, and you DO want that change because you've never bought any UG books.

Let's say that you want the March changes but not some of the January ones. Please read below and see what to do.

WHAT TO DO:
1. Before every update download that you decide to perform, you should check our handy chart on the downloads page. Understand what is being changed in both the CURRENT update and in all previous ones.

2. If there is a file change to content that you want to retain access to, you must PRINT from your existing curriculum BEFORE you do the update download. Then you will have the content you need, and can photocopy it in the future.

OR, a second option is to save files that you will want in the future in a different place in your hard drive file structure and then do the update download. We DO NOT recommend this, and we cannot support it technically. (In other words, if you move and then misplace a file, we can't resend it or help you retrieve it. Your BEST option is to print the content you'll want in the future.)

EXAMPLE: In our example above, therefore, in January, if you already own the LG book, print the Reading Assignment Chart and the Worksheet and store them in a file that you create for such content. (Or, you can save the file in another place on your computer, and figure a way to keep track of it, since we cannot support this approach.) Then, do the update download for the rest of the corrections or additions that you want in that download (per the chart that lets you know exactly what has been changed in each new update). In March, when you DO want the new book's related content, simply do the download and the old, outdated (and, to you, useless) content will be overwritten.

In this way, you'll always have the latest copy of Tapestry on your computer, but be able to retain content that you care about before updating your TOG DE.

Marcia

I have a question regarding this update process. I understand the files will be overwritten. I can see that, if you have the space, it would be beneficial to save the Workbook content to a separate file before updating. Is there a way, though, for us to see what is being replaced? I may have a book that is now out of print, and I might save the workbook content so I have access to the corresponding SAPs, but I will not know when they are assigned. I don't believe I can get that information on the book updates page, can I?

Blessings,
Jennifer

The update chart lists the substantive changes that we make in each update. That's how you know; you can then determine if you want to save off any files before overwriting. Smiler

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I had a question regarding the resource list in DE. Having used the Classic version for several years, I got very used to using the ISBN for books both in searching for them at the library and inputting them into my planner, which can put all the info in on the resource by using the ISBN. I can't seem to find the ISBN's anywhere- are they still available?
Thanks,
Susan

Hi Susan,
Right now we do not have anyplace that lists books by the ISBN. Sorry about that...

I'm a little confused on the latest update to Tapestry. The BIG one. I downloaded Year 2 today but don't see these particular updates. I thought I read that it was now ready.

I understand I must send my supplemental cd's back in order to have them show up on my DE version. I've read so much on how this is supposed to work that I think I became more confused!

Are the supplement additions the only change? Thank you and I hope I didn't confuse anyone!

I brought this up one other time but wanted to find out if you had figured out if you will be able and willing to do...

Is it going to be possible for you to put the Reading Assignment Charts and Literature Sheets in a separate folder for Out-of-Print books so we will still have access to the material after an update of OOP books. This would also be helpful if someone can get one of the OOP books at the Library but the new book isn't available.

Sorry for the bug, but I do know you are working hard to make DE an Excellent product. I do believe this would allow the hard work you have already put into the Lit Sheets to be used well. And then those of us who buy the books to use for later children won't have to worry about keeping track of loose pages we need for later or a file somewhere on our computer.

Thanks for the hard work.

Taneiel, we have designed a solution for the out-of-print/update problem you've identified. As soon as I'm caught up on Pop Quiz, I'll be programming enhancements to the online Resource List that show ALL the alternate books and ALL the out-of-print and/or update pages that we have available.

Our goal is to allow every customer who ever bought a unit from us to be able to generate a list of all the books (primary, alternate, out-of-print, etc.) for any given week. We want to make TOG both easy and economical.

Given the competing priorities around here, we don't expect the alternates and out-of-print pages to be up before August 24 (that's our "supported start date" and we're racing to get other things done), but these new features should be showing up shortly thereafter.

Hi, Christin!

We are still working on "the latest update to Tapestry. The BIG one." Once it's completed, we'll put links all over the place. You won't be able to miss it.

By the way, I shall now forever and ever refer to it as "the latest update to Tapestry. The BIG one." That is better than any of the names the staff has come up with! Big Grin

LOL Ray, that's fine. But I'm going to require some royalties for that. You know, like a free Tapestry Year would be fine. Wink LOL j/k

Thanks a lot!

Somewhat new here (I read more than I post)...

Does this also mean that the corresponding SAP for an OOP or replaced book will be available in those files?

Thanks and blessings,

Lets see if I have this right Smiler

I have an original Redesign Y2 - at our co op many people just ordered Red. Y2 with the last print run. I am noticing that mine is a little different (I will be leading Rhetoric history/lit) so think I should upgrade. I believe I can upgrade to DE for just $50? But will I have the same version as those in our co op who just purchased the print version? Also I would assume that I should not download the "big one" upgrade until we finish this co op year? How soon can I recv the upgrade? Also I will have more than one computer that needs access-do you recommend I just call customer service and work this all out? Smiler

This will be my 9th year with TOG!!
