It is our expectation that most of our Tapestry DE users will only print limited sections of each week-plan out for use, even as they do now. However, we are aware from your feedback that it will be important to some moms to have entire units printed to order. One of our very own Tapestry customers has stepped forward to help all of you with this desire. When Tapestry DE is released in December, Lampstand Press will be prepared to gather orders for individual units to be printed on demand. Since these are not large runs, the price is higher than Lampstand Press’s printer prices, but still significantly lower than your nearby copy shop’s. For $.05/impression (side of a page) you can get a full-color printed copy of a unit shipped inside of two weeks. Unit lengths vary, but their average length is around 500 pages; this will be a cost of about $25/unit, plus shipping charges. When you place your order for a particular unit, we will give you an exact price that includes an exact page count, as well as shipping and handling charges.

These print jobs are done using color Xerox technology, not offset printing. Therefore, there are differences of paper and “sheen” in the finished product. There are also no “bleeds” using this technique; however, in examining the sample copy, we found that the tab feature of the print-out was of comparable use to the bleeds that offset techniques offered.

Because this is being done for you as a favor, our printer friend has asked that we protect his time. Thus, as a service to you and him, Lampstand Press will field all customer inquiries and orders for printed units, and send these to the printer in weekly batches. Your charge card will be processed by Lampstand Press, but your package will come directly from the printer.

Questions? Post below! Smiler

What is meant by a "bleed," and would you also clarify what you are referring to when you mention the "tabs?"

Thanks!

Ronda,

In printing a "bleed" is when the color of a page is extended beyond the printed page.

For our use, the actual page size of Tapestry of Grace pages is larger than 8.5 x 11. The color extends about a quarter inch or so out of the margin and then is trimmed by the printer, which makes the color go all the way to the margin.

If you look at the side of your year-plan, you can see those colors of the tabs-like bars that go across each page and then down the side to indicate the section of the week-plan you're in (like purple for Threads, or yellow for Reading or blue for student pages). The tabs are labeled and colored, so they're still visible when you flip through a unit, but they don't BLEED to the edge so that you can see them just by looking end-on at the pages even when they are all lying tightly together, as with a closed book.

I recently got Year 2 DE and after trying to print what I needed using my home printer (inkjet-no duplex) I realized this is really not an ideal option. So I started looking for ways to get the whole year plan printed. I saw this post, which mentions $25/unit, but when I looked at the store, it shows printed units cost $60 EACH! That would be $240 for the year-way too much. Is there another option? I was also thinking of sending it to a local print shop (Staples, Office Depot, etc.), but I don't know how to get them the file in Locklizard format? HELP!!

Hamilton,

Where are you looking to see a $60 price tag? I just looked randomly at unit 1 of Year 1 and Unit 1 of Year 4, and both were listed for $31.40 as an add-on optional print for the unit. We charge the ACTUAL price that our printer is charging us plus shipping from his Atlanta location. The price of each unit is individual, and based on the page count for each unit, but I don't think that any of them are $60. This is an old thread, and the $25 was his first guestimate, and not far from what it actually came out to for most unit.

Can you put up a link to the page you're seeing, please?

Ah... light has dawned via Ray. I bet you're looking at purchasing the STAND ALONE printed Year 2 units! These are NOT DE. If you've purchased DE, you'll have a much lower price point for a printed unit. Just give Customer Service a call and they'll fix you right up! Smiler

Yes, guess I was looking at individual printed units-not DE. I did notice the post was from last December, but still thought that was a huge price jump!

I am interested in ordering this for my plan. Where do I go to find the ones you're talking about? Can I order that directly online? I have Year 2 DE.

Thanks,
Linda

I just realized you said to call customer service to order-does that mean I cannot order it online? One last thing, do I have the option of having it printed at a local copy center? (I don't know how much they would charge for this, though).

Thanks!

Hi Linda,

When you initally purchase DE, you can add on the printed copy while you're ordering online. However, once you've ordered DE and you want to come back and place a separate order for the printed units (which you can do at any time), you do need to call it in because we need to verify your DE purchase. Smiler

We do offer the ability to print at a print shop; we have a policy in place to provide a release for allowing a print shop to print for you. However, please know that a) it's going to be more expensive than our Coleman (the name of our partner printer) copies, and b) not all print shops have the willingess or ability to take the job. You can contact us if you're interested in details and beginning that process. Smiler

Thanks for the info. Yes, I saw you could order the printed at time of purchase, but at the time, I thought it would be so much easier to just print what I needed Big Grin but unless you have a high-quality printer it is not that "easy". I will call it in today. Having it done at a printer does not seem worth it with cost. I was concerned about time frame but will find that out when I call. Smiler

Thanks again!
Linda
