I finally downloaded the update for Y4 U1 and am sort of confused - so far I see no difference between my DE version on the computer and my paper copy, (DE version purchased on June 4, paper copy arrived about 1 1/2 weeks later). Is it possible that my paper copy already has the updates?

Also, the update info listed a 3rd item - info. added on the Unit Introduction, that I don't see explained anywhere on this section of the forum. Is the only way to find it to wade through the entire Unit Intro., trying to sift through and see what's different btw. the computer version and the paper copy?

Thanks to all of you hardworking servants at TOG!

Laurie

I don't know why you would need to sift through. When we add or change information, it's because there was some previous error, or the information was no longer current at time of update. This is one of the beauties of DE for us: we can keep people current. Let me know why you need to know and I'll try to help.

The new interface has only become available today. We're explaining it in a newsletter being released later this afternoon. Meanwhile, you can click here to order DE supplements and refresh your interface at the DE Updates page.

BE ADVISED: Because we have just released new products, download times are significantly slower during peak hours. Please be patient, or consider downloading during non-peak (nighttime) hours. Thanks!

Blessings,
Marcia

I'm not Laurie, but I know why someone might want to sift through and find the changes. If I already have a paper copy to work from, then I don't want to have to print a second copy of any page unless I need the new information for some reason. If a page hasn't changed, there's no need to reprint it. If just one word on a page has changed, I can make that change on my paper easily enough. But if the page is substantially different, I might want to reprint the whole page. But that will vary depending on the reason for the change (maybe I already own the book that is now OOP, for instance).

This all gets so incredibly complicated!

I have the same thoughts as Beth. I guess it's those of us who prefer a paper copy. We are incorrigible! Smiler

Thank you, Beth, for making my question much more clear! It is sometimes difficult to explain exactly what our confusion is, to put it in print, at least...

For right now, I don't have much time to even pay attention to updates. Except for Poetics and Frameworks, but that's on the loom and is in process anyway.

Yes, we can be incorrigible! My constant battle is one of "is it absolutely necessary that I dot every i and cross every t???" THAT is the question. My children will learn so much from this curriculum, even IF I don't do it all.

My thought for you ladies, if I'm understanding, would be to just happily use your printed units and, if there's a discrepancy or a point of confusion when, for instance, you go to print a fresh page from the DE updated copy, you'll know that the DE is always the latest.

I think the only SUBSTANTIVE thing to pay attention to in updates is work pages that change due to OOP books. But, we plan to make "past" work pages perennially available so even this isn't something to worry about at all.

Marcia
