I am in week 15 and it uses The Promised Land as reading for History. I can not seem to find that book in my stack I ordered from y'all and and trying to figure out if it is out of print and was not available for me to order or what?
I don't even see it on my original invoice. I can not find it on the Bookshelf either. What should I replace it with? Should I have it?

Thanks,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,
Yes, it has gone out of print and I have been unable to find a replacement title. However, the questions for the week can be answered with the other resources, so you should be just fine without it.

Blessings,

Dana C. in TN

"Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew,
like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.
I will proclaim the name of the Lord.
Oh, praise the greatness of our God!"

Speaking of this book, I do have it and have a question about it. I got one of the last copies from Master Books.

After reading out of the book of Joshua this week (week 15), a paragraph on page 6 of this book does not seem theologically correct and I wanted you ladies input here so I can help explain it to my children.

Joshua tells us about God telling the Israelites to go in a kill people; men, women, children, babies. Spare no one. This was very hard to read to my children.

Then we get out The Promised Land book and read this on page 6: "God wants nothing to do with violence. Sometimes people have used the name of God to justify their wars or their oppression of others. God is not a warrior. Rather, God is a God of Peace and Love. How could a peaceful and loving God be on the side of those who bring about death? War is always a work of death."

My response was "HUH?" God TOLD Joshua to kill people. My children and I sat there completely confused. I talked to my husband about it and he is equally confused and said it was okay for me to ask others.

Someone who has this book, (or even if you don't) will you help me understand this?

Thanks so much,

Deb

Deb,
I'm not sure how much help I can be, except to say that you are right. The author, in making the statement you quote, directly contradicts himself with his statement on the bottom of page 9 that God judges and punishes sin.

The passage on page 6 that you quoted seems to me to be a veiled reference to Muslims and jihad.

In fact, I noticed several other instances where the author seems to have a mixed-up theology, or else directly contradicts himself (or both). On the bottom of page 6, he talks about the "fundamental right to a homeland." I've never heard of this one before! And on page 30, he mentions that "the Bible exhorts all leaders. . .to share the earth equitably." I've never heard that, either. On most of the pages with "Today" at the top, I find statements that make me wonder what his beliefs truly are (or maybe what his agenda is?). Page 18 even states "It is possible for human beings to exist together as a family. It is not just an impossible dream!" This seems to completely ignore the facts that the world has been damaged by sin, and that not all people choose to follow the Lord. In fact, he contradicts himself again on p. 7 when he says, "How can anyone not avoid being drawn To discouragement When facing the human impossiblity Of building together a happy earth?" And I won't even go into where he goes from there...

So, I don't think you can explain this to your children, because I think it contradicts the Bible. But, if anyone sees this differently, I hope you will explain it to both Deb and me!
