Hi, I have a daughter going into 10th grade. We are looking at several college options and I am wondering if anyone has tried the CollegePlus! option. If you have, did you do TOG with that...I can't imagine being able to do that much studying!! I find it interesting to be able to start your degree from home. My husband and I had the discusiion, though, that we do not want our children to learn for "getting the degree" sake as much as learning "for learning's sake."
We still will want them to love to learn, but getting a degree in half the time at half the price is pretty great, too. Any thoughts? Wife and mom of my joy on earth..Dan, my husband, and our daughters..Hannah, Abbey and Emma |

Shannon,
My 17 year old son has been using the College Plus! coaching and has accumulated 39 credit hours in about 7 months. I also had concerns about studying just to pass a test instead of learning for learning's sake, but my concerns have been alleviated. My son isn't having to spend a whole semester to get three hours worth of credit that he can get in two weeks of studying at home. Some topics he has studied have been of interest so that he has studied them more in depth on his own. Other topics he has studied enough to pass the test and know that is not a field he wants to pursue further. It would be too much for my son to work on college credit and TOG. At first I was kind of sad that he would not be participating in our TOG studies, but it has turned out that he still participates in our discussions and even some of the reading. (He just can't pass up an interesting book that has been left on the counter.) Over all, accumulating college credit the College Plus! way has been a good fit for our family. In the future I plan to have some of my other children take the appropriate CLEP tests as we finish studying the information in TOG (ie. taking the CLEP Western Civilization I test after finishing TOG Year 1 and 2.) I hope you find a college plan that fits your family. Blessings, Jfurlough |
