We've always done writing the way TOG suggests: the student does a first draft, checks and revises it himself, gives it to me, I make comments and point out areas that need corrections, the student revises some more and turns it in for a final grade. How much input is ethical to give on essays that are actually going to be submitted as part of a college application? Should I eliminate the teacher editing step and just let him use the rubric to check himself?

Hi Bonnie,
We downloaded a few from college websites that my sons were interested in attending and used them for practice. I graded/checked them as normal. Then, as it got closer to actually turning them in for application purposes, I did not edit/check. Blessings, Dana C. in TN "Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants. I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God!" Deut. 32:2-4 |

I think you can ethically do some editing, but I'd try to stick to basics like grammar, syntax.

Thanks.
