I started to print out the Unit 1 maps from MapAids in order to get ready for school. My ds took a look at the world map for week 1 and said, "that's too small, Mom." Does anyone know how I can print a bigger map, maybe half on one page and half on another, so that I can tape the two together?

Also, the maps from MapAids (at least for week1) are not labeled. Are there "teacher's maps" somewhere on the MapAids CD? Or maybe somewhere in the Year Plan? Please help. I'm thinking that the answer is really obvious and I'm just missing it....

Thanks!
-Kathy

Hi Kathy -
there should be teacher's maps on your map aids CD Maybe there isn't one for week 1 though - I can't remember! (we are on the yr 3 this year...) Have you tried looking at your options for printing? Depending on what your printer is capable of, you may be able to select poster mode or some similar name that would let you print one image over multiple pages. I have never done that so I don't know if you would have to allow for margins or if you would just need to tape pages together or what, but it might be worth a try! good luck!
Blessings,
April

OK guys. I can't believe I missed it! There's a Teacher's column of links to maps on the right hand side. How silly of me to have missed it... Smiler

April,
Thanks for your suggestion. I haven't found a poster function yet for my printer, but I'll keep looking. In the mean time, if anyone else has other ideas, I would love to know. Thanks.

Blessings,
Kathy

This site is linked on each year's Geography resources http://www.yourchildlearns.com/megamaps.htm

From the home page, click on any year, then on Geography, then on General.

HTH!

Wow, these are great Susan!

If you want to print your own maps or others that you scan into the computer...I have printed poster size maps from my TOG Map Aid CD. You can enlarge them (if you have a printer that has a poster selection). It prints -maps out just like the maps from Susan's recommended website and then you have to assemble together (which is a project in itself!) But makes a good project for the first week back to school with TOG. Ask family to come over and help and make cookies. I love the look of elderly when they see all the sheets come out of the printer and we are trying to puzzle it all together. Big Grin

All you need to do is open a map of your choice from your Map Aids CD.
I have a Dell Printer. But I know many new printers have this poster setting and to find it , directions would look something similar like this (or on the first page of your print selection - right in front of you):
Check your printer manual it should say there if you have the printing 'Poster' option or not.

-Click Print
-Click Properties
-Click Advanced; On that page there's 'Layout' options (usually it's on 'Normal') -Change it to 'Poster'; then select how large you want your poster...ranges from 2' x 2'= 4 pages, to 4' x 4' = 16 pages! Nice and large.

-Warning: Make sure you check that the Layout setting is back to Normal before printing again...I don't remember if It goes back to the 'normal' setting or not. I think it does Roll Eyes but thought I should tell you just in case. lol. Red Face

Poster size Newsletters was something we did in the past. It makes cool looking, close to real life size newspapers. Just create a newsletter as you normally would and then print to poster size! Looks great.
We made a end of the TOG unit project newsletter with this option. Makes a nice education fair presentation along with your projects.

Happy printing!
Vanessa
