For Week 16 Dialectic Geography it says "shade the regions where the tribes of Israel dwelt during the time of Samuel. Compare your finished map with last week's work. How much had changed in 400 years or so?" The Map-Aids map for Week 17 "The Rise of Saul" doesn't seem any different than the map for Week 16 "12 Tribes of Israel" relative to the names of the tribes and their locations. Shouldn't the map during the days of Samuel/Saul have a few changes such as the tribe of Dan no longer marked near the Philistines, but instead they took land in the far north of the Promised Land b/c they had difficulties earlier?
What is the goal of that Geography question? Is it to note which tribes did not end up in the exact region they were alloted in the days of Joshua? To note that the Hittites / Canannites were pushed out? To draw attention to the 5 great Philistine cities? I don't seem able to determine the answer that is desired from the Teacher Notes either. Thank you for any help, Beth Ann |

Beth Ann,
All of those are the goal! :-) We just want them to compare the two maps, and glean the relationships between, especially, Saul and Joshua's organizational schemes and political realities. Blessings, Marcia No one can do me a greater kindness in this world than to pray for me. --Charles Spurgeon |

The only map I can locate in the Holman Bible Atlas is for Week 15's assignment, the original allocation of the land for the tribes. I can't find a map showing how the tribes' dwelling places changed. Can someone help?
Thanks, Michelle |

Hi Michelle,
I believe that the map you are looking for is on p. 90 of the Holman Bible Atlas. Blessings, Dana C. in TN "Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants. I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God!" Deut. 32:2-4 |

Dana,
That map is identical to the one on p. 84, which shows the original allotment of the tribes. I thought Dan moved to the north because they couldn't drive out the Philistines? Michelle |

Hi Michelle,
I was comparing the one on p. 84 to the one on p. 3 of the week-plan. See if that helps... Blessings, Dana C. in TN "Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants. I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God!" Deut. 32:2-4 |
