Hi, Just started wk1 of Yr1. Still adjusting to everything. I love the idea of transparency maps but one point bothered me, ie the part that says (from the Loom):
"While storing, top each transparency layer with a piece of colored cardstock or heavy paper that can be removed while viewing the project." Does anyone have any problem with this or is it just me? 1. Won't it be cumbersome to have to lay papers in between every transparency? 2. Are these in-between papers "hole-punched & filed" or just laid "unfiled" in between? 3. If laid "loosely", I'm afraid one day it will all come "flying" out when the file is not held properly? Maybe I'm not understanding this storage idea properly. Some advice or hints would be appreciated. Many thanks, Bee Ling (from Sydney, Australia) |

Hi,
This is our second year doing the transparency maps and we don't use the paper between layers at all. We have not had any problems with smearing ink or anything like that. I started out with the paper 3 hole-punched in the binder with the transparencies, but it had to be removed to enjoy the map. When I realized that they maps were not smearing at all, I stopped using the paper. *We do use sharpies to draw mountains, rivers etc. and to show boundaries. Tip-you can erase sharpie mistakes on the transparency with an eraser. *We use a label maker with a clear tape to print out most of the labels. This has made our mapwork really fun for my D-level child. He takes the Geography list from his binder and types up all the labels before we sit down for geography. Since he types them up, he is learning to spell them and becomes familiar with them before we look them up in an atlas. We have beautiful maps from all our TOG studies. We have really enjoyed the transparency project with TOG. Blessings, Eia |

Thanks, Eia. It's always great to get a quick response, and to learn from those "who've been there and done that".
Thanks for sharing experience. I love your idea of the label markers! I'm going to put it in my shopping list. Blessings, Bee Ling : ) |
