I have all levels doing geography this year. How much should I allow my children to copy their map labels from the teacher's answer map (does that have any value?), vs. how much to require them to look up the locations in their resources - or in other resources if theirs don't have them? I'm not too concerned about my younger kids - they can probably benefit from just looking at the answer map, but I want to make sure I'm striking a good balance for my R-level kids; not loading on the busy-work and not shying away from valuable searching.
Thanks, Bonnie |

Hi Bonnie,
I really encourage the use of an atlas; finding places is a skill that they will use all of their lives. For most of Year 1, I recommend the Holman Bible Atlas. Blessings, Dana C. in TN "Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants. I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God!" Deut. 32:2-4 |

I do both. I have them check an atlas first (at least older children who can handle it not being in the atlas) and I have them look in their history books.
If they tell me I can't find X, then they get the answer map to search for it. |

Thanks Dana and Pat - that's helpful!
