We have really enjoyed our study of the holy days, even attending a local Shabbat service here in Little Rock. I absolutely loved it that the fine arts concept of "contrast" came at the same time we were studying Yom Kippur. Awesome connections for our kiddos!

I have a question regarding week 9. It's too late to think straight and I've reviewed this several times. . .

Week 9, page 1 (Threads) states that we'll be studying "Shavuot (also called Ingathering, Feast of Weeks, or Pentecost), Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles), and Bikkurim (Feast of First Fruits)."

From what I have read, it seems that Bikkurim is PART of Shavuot.

The SAPs (page 11) state: "This final week, we'll look at Shavuot (Feast of Weeks or First Fruits), Sukkot (also called the Feast of Tabernacles or Booths), and Pentecost (Harvest)." This seems to be a contradiction to the info in the Threads.

Then, the RACs have no references to Pentecost under any of the history readings, but assign readings from each book on Passover (already studied in weeks 6 and 7).

This is likely just a printing error. . . or I am going crazy. =)

Could someone at Lampstand clear this one up for me? I already checked The Loom for updates/corrections.

Thanks so much! (We'll keep plugging away at the feasts and holidays in the meantime),

Hi Wendy,
I was just looking into purchasing Tapestry for my kids and noticed your question as a I was looking around on the site.

While I don't have the curriculum yet, I would offer that there are two First Fruits that occur between Passover and Shavuot. The first is the waving of the barley sheaves the Sunday morning following Passover. [i.e. this is why Yeshua (Jesus) is referred to as the First Fruits of them that slept/died). This day also begins the counting of the Omer, where we are commanded by God to count 7, 7's or 49 days to the 50th day which is Shavuot. I have the kids help me remember by letting them put stickers on the calendar for each day and we say a little related blessing. At Shavuot there is also the "official" First Fruits in which the rest of the barley is gathered in, and the 2 loaves of leavened bread are waved before the Lord as a wave offering. This is likely what they mean by Bikkurim, but in Messianic circles, we only ever refer to it as Shavuot (Pentacost).

What also may be happening is that they are having you study the three pilgrimage feasts in which every male was required to be in Jerusalem for that Feast. Thus Passover, Shavuot (Pentacost) and Sukkot are tied together in that they are required pilgimage feasts.

This is why in the book of John for example, Jesus can delay going into Jerusalem until Sukkot (without sinning), and he spends Yom Teruah (the Feast of Trumpets) in the Galilee which occurs three days after the feeding of the 5,000 (FYI chap 6 is not a Passover that was added by later editors and is not found in some 13th century manuscripts today). Jesus then spends Yom Kippur in a synogogue in Capernaum. Then we see Him up to Jerusalem for Sukkot and he also appears to stick around for Chanukah since we see Him in the Temple on that day (John 9-10). Since John 5 is clearly Shavuot, the whole book gives us one layer of a perfect 70 week ministry of Messiah in the book of John detailed just a predicted by Daniel in Dan 9:24-27. This accords with the Synoptics and early church fathers which have the Messiah's ministry at just about 1 year.

For more info on the Feasts and quick references you can visit our church website www.communityoftheway.com.

Hope that helps a bit anyway!
