I used Bishop Ussher's Annals of the World with my older children as a spine for ancient history in high school. My daughter said it helped her understand the inter-testamental period better than anything she had ever read. Now that I have found ToG I was wondering if it would be possible to use this as a Year One spine for my younger children as they reach Rhetoric stage. Has anyone done this?

There's no reason that would not work for you. You'll want to use each week's threads to determine what to read from it.

You may also want to lessen readings in other assigned books that are duplicative.

I have not used this book, but I have found it pretty easy to sub in books I own and like for TOG books.

"One of the major flaws in some forms of reader-response criticism is that they tend to ignore the compact between author and audience, overlook that the author had some purpose and information to convey when he wrote the document, and assume that it is the reader who can and must decide what sorts of things, including what sort of meaning, one can derive from a text."
