I was wondering if there was a list available of the actual time periods each lesson (within each unit) covers. I looked at the scope and sequence chart on the website, but that is a little too generic.

Often that information is in the unit introductions or in the timeline section of the week plans themselves. That doesn't help you if you do not own a year plan and are trying to decide if Tapestry is right for you. I don't believe there is a week-by-week timeline listed on the web. You can get a pretty good idea, however, by looking at the list of weekly topics for each year plan when you click on the 'Tapestry of Grace The Curriculum' tab. Someone else may know if there is something elsewhere.

Blessings,
Monica

No, Sarah, that detailed information is within the curriculum, not offered for the general public. As Monica says, though, we know that much can be gleaned from what we do post, and we purposefully do it this way to enable such gleaning. Smiler

That is what I was afraid of! I have been using TOG for about a month, and I do have the year plan... but trying to wade through each unit... multiplied by all the units, is quite time consuming. Even the "Look Ahead" sections are not really what I feel I need. Just a simple list that looked something like this would be so helpful:

U1, W1- Topic/Country, from Date through Date

Thanks for all your help!

Sarah,

Something else to note about the chronological order in TOG is that it is driven by topic and not just the date for that week. As you travel through TOG you will notice that the course of study allows you to focus on one topic for a period of time and then fill in with information about surrounding countries and leaders. This is different from other programs that have a more strict approach to chronological order. I prefer this approach, because it has more continuity and seems less confusing than jumping back and forth from one group of people to another every week. It is very beneficial to create timelines with older children while they study history, because it helps them see how things fit together and which things were happening at the same time. TOG focuses first on the topic or story being told and plugs that into the timeline in the way that makes the most sense. Other programs are driven by the timeline and tend to travel back and forth a bit more. Both ways can work just fine, but I prefer the method used in TOG and find that it's less confusing to my children.

Not sure if this was clear to you, since you are just getting started. So, I thought this might help you "see" how things are organized to assist you in your planning. In the Yellow Overview pages, Marcia always provides timeline dates that she considers key for that week. This should also help you track it on a timeline. Year 1 doesn't offer the dates in the beginning, which might be adding to your confusion. Dates are provided in later weeks under the Dialectic/Rhetoric section in the overview pages.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your response. There is always so much help to be found here! I love the topical emphasis, but sometimes I find myself floundering as to the time periods involved. The three-week topic of Egypt covers a huge chunk of time. I know that the info is in each week, I am just trying to find out if there is a consolidated and simple list of what time periods are covered for each topic, each week.

I guess, through all these responses, that the answer is no...? I LOVE this curriculum. It just seems to be organized oddly. I feel like I am always hunting to find things... I guess it will come with time.

Anyhow, thanks for everyone's help!
Sarah
