Have anyone tried to use the government readings with a 9th grader? Usually in the public schools, government is a 12th grade subject. He is a great reader but I am worried the reading will overwhelm him. I have never done the government elective with my others as they got it as a separate class thru our co-op.

Thanks for any insight.
In Him,
Jennifer

I also have a 9th grade son and I am planning on giving him the government assignments from Yr1. I think they will lay an important foundation for future government lessons.

I felt the same as you do, that it was going to be too rich, combined with the literature readings. I decided to cut literature readings.

I ended up emailing a local private school, that uses the classical method, for their freshman reading list. It was very, very similar to TOG. I eliminated maybe a third of the lit. readings. There are still a couple of weeks where he will be very busy reading. And we may just take two weeks to finish those weeks. (Hope that makes sense.)
