Hello, I am in the information-gathering stage. I am curious to know if TOG will conflict with covenant theology. I have seen that it is Protestant with ties to Sovereign Grace Ministries. So, I wonder how much theological tweaking I'll have to do teaching the material. Does TOG take a Van Tillian approach especially in the D and R levels?
Also, is there a book list available listing them in order of importance/necessity? We are church planters in Mexico, and so no libraries here.
Thanks,
Leah Robinson

Hi Leah,

We are Reformed and covenantal. I have used Y2 & Y4 Classic at the rhetoric level. Particularly in Y4 I added some extra readings in church history. We are OPC so I added J. Gresham Machen's Christianity and Liberalism, and The Presbyterian Controversy. I also added several articles from other sources.

One of the beauties of ToG is that you can customize like this. I think you could easily add some of Van Til's stuff if your kids are up to it. Or maybe Bahnsen, sometimes he is a little easier to read.

Christian Liberty Press and Covenant Home curriculum both have good Bible programs from a Reformed, covenantal perspective. Both companies have websites so you can look at what they offer. With that solid base I have felt that exposing my R level students to other ideas and then taking them to scripture to examine the truth has been beneficial.

Hope this helps. I would love to hear what resources you have.

Sharon,
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I'm at the very beginning of my homeschooling journey. We've been using materials from Veritas Press, Well-Trained Mind recommendations, and All Through the Ages as a reference for our history readings.

Thanks again, it was a great help to me!
Leah
