Hello,
I just wondered if there were any non-Americans using TOG?

- alot of the Years, 2, 3 & 4 have mainly American history tied into them - how do people work around these?

Kind regards
Sherid

Hi,

I am Polish and I used Year 3 LG and UG ( I am in Unit 4 now). There was a lot of non-American history in Year 3. In Unit 1 half of the themes were around Europe and South America. In Unit 2 about 3 weeks on Victorian England, including Australia. In Unit 3 there was 2 weeks on East Asia and then Crimean War. Unit 4 has 3 weeks on Africa. Also, there were weeks on inventions and industrial development, which was inter-cultural (famous people of Western culture).

We did not do all of the worldview/church history, but a lot of these were missionary stories from around the world.

I did a lot of Polish history last summer and I am trying to implement it whenever we study similar times, cultures or subject that is related.

If I would have older kids, they would have slightly different accents in their week's topics, sometimes concentrated more on the US history, but sometimes the opposite.

Year 4 looks also quite promising for us since the biggest events (WWI, WWII, Communism) happened in Europe, which is where I am from.

We are Polish - American family, we live in the USA, so for me it was just right balance of US/World history. If I would live outside of the USA, especially in Poland, I would have to re-think using TOG, and I am not saying it in a negative sense, just I would have to see if it would fit our needs.

You can also easily add your own studies almost between any weeks if you wish, and incorporate them withing TOG.
