Hi,
Was wondering what would be the best way to go about getting resources. I will have children in 10th, 8th, 3rd, and kindergarten next year, so I would need to teach to at least the 3 older and let the littliest glean from that. From what I could gather from the samples there are a lot of activities and books to choose from and to purchase all the books would be quite expensive. I live out in the country so library trips are a little limited. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!
Blessings,
Lori

I would buy used for my oldest, purchase spines like Streams and Story of the World for the other two, buying used for them as well as I am able, and try to make the library every month or month and a half. We can check our books out 3 weeks at a time here and renew online, perhaps your library offers something like that as well. A lot of the activities can be found for free online, don't neglect all the wonderful links TOG provides for each year plan. There are a lot of books in the public domain that could be read online or you could print, but printing is probably more expansive than buying the books. Check out the Baldwin Project.

I don't use textbooks like BJU, Streams of Civilization, or Spielvogel -- I don't feel they give enough detail and we haven't been able to find the answers to the questions. But,in the past, I have used Story of the World (and this year I'm going to try Mystery of History) as my spine for the youngest.

When buying the books TOG recommends, I try to buy used first -- sometimes from other ladies on this forum, sometimes from Amazon, and then I buy from the Bookshelf any that I haven't been able to get used.

Hope that helps!!

I use one or two spines (Marshall and Streams of Civilization), but I try to take more of a Charlotte Mason approach with living books, so I've purchased a bunch of read-aloud and SR books for my 15-year-old son for Y2...
