Hi,
I am earnestly looking into Tapestry of Grace Year 3. I have a quick question about the reading assignments. My twins are 9 and I was wondering how you schedule the reading of books between the two without it taking all day to get the assignments done. Thanks so much for any advice you can share! Melanie |

Hi Melanie! I have twins, too (8.5 yo dd and ds). We completed Y2 last year and will be starting Y3 at the beginning of Sept.
Although both of my children are excellent readers, we usually read the History Core and the History In-Depth books together (spread out over the week). Occasionally, when time was pressing on certain days, I'd have them read that day's sections on their own. I gave them sticky notes with their initials and the pages that needed to be read, which they used as book marks. One child is a faster reader than the other, so the sticky note bookmarks came in handy. We used the bookmark method for the literature reading as well. I planned out the weekly reading for each unit ahead of time, using an excel spreadsheet. Then, before each week started, I divided the reading into the days of the school week, to make it manageable. That allowed me to know what reading needed to be completed each day (or sometimes by the end of the week) so we weren't spending all of Friday doing most of the reading. The one child who is a quick reader and loves to read biographies and history books, consumed the books way ahead of time and was always asking for more books to read. We ended up getting many of the books listed on the "alternate or extra resources" pages so that child could enjoy reading more about that week's topics. The other child was not required to do the extra reading. That's just the way we handled more than one child at a specific level using the same books. It was never a problem for us. We LOVE Tapestry of Grace. This will be year 4 for us (we completed Y1 over two years, since the kiddos were quite young), and we enjoy it more and more each year. There are so many great resources...Tapestry Yahoo! Groups by year and the Loose Threads group...through which many other moms using TOG are generous and gracious in sharing ideas, thoughts, and resources, and are very willing to answer any questions you might have along the way. I hope this info. is helpful to you. -Carol |

Carol,
Thanks for sharing how you handle the reading with your twins. I have twins like yours where one is a stronger reader than the other. Your tips are very helpful!!!! Thanks for sharing how much you enjoy TOG. I believe the Lord used your comment about LOVING it to ease my mind about TOG. We have a lot of changes taking place in our lives right now from my husband retiring from the Air Force after 20 years to moving to a new state with diifferent rules and starting a new business and now a new curriculum! Whew! So, your comments about how much you love TOG is a comforting, calming, and reassuring message for my heart from God through you! THANK YOU!!!!! Melanie |

Melanie,
I'm glad the Lord used me to encourage you. Wow, you certainly are going through a lot of life changes! It will be neat for you to see how God uses those for His glory and your good. If in your Tapestry journey you ever need encouragement, feel free to send me an email at carathbun@yahoo.com. The first two years for us were tough, but I knew TOG was what I was looking for for our family, so I wouldn't give up. I found some wonderful words of wisdom and advice from the many Tapestry Yahoo! Groups, and found the "right" combination of map work, activities, and reading for us, and it started going really well. If you sign up for your year's (Y3) Tapestry Yahoo! Group and Loose Threads Yahoo! Group, anytime you have a question or concern and post it, you will get some very helpful responses. There are some wonderful prayer warriors on the Loose Threads! group! May God bless you and your family on your new adventures! -Carol |
