Hi everyone,
Does anyone out there know the Tapestry support date for the soon to be released Year 4 DE? I am hoping that someone might have found the answer to this question; I have been following all the discussions and news closely, but I may have overlooked it. It would make planning for co-op meetings and calendars much easier.
Thanks,
Deb

Support date? Do you mean for next school year?

If so: we are walking very carefully given the economy. We are releasing Year 4 as we write it, one unit at a time, as we pray that people will continue to support our company so that we can finish it. Smiler So far, so good! We're ready to release Unit 1 in the first week of June. Big Grin

Our plan for the next school year is to ready everything for a similar support date as the last previous years. We're releasing Unit 1 at just about the same time as previous years, it's just that DE makes it seem sooner 'cause we don't have to wait for the printer. Smiler

It looks like we'll be supporting and August 24 start date, just from a quick glance at the calendar, God willing.

Blessings,
Marcia

Thanks so much for your timely answer Marcia. Yes, I did mean for next school year - I guess I didn't word my question very well. Our co-op is just trying to set up next year's calendar. We want to be a couple of weeks behind the support date so that if something unforseen happens and delays the release of materials, it won't affect us much. We realize the importance of flexibility when planning our calendar - however it helps to at least begin with a strong plan so that Tapestry and all its fun events takes priority.
Thanks again, Marcia, for letting me know.....

Blessings,
Deb Pierson

Marcia can you clarify what you mean by YR 4 will be released the 1st week of June yet the supporting start date is Aug 24. I am a little confused.

Thanks!

Hi Teresa,
In other words, you can get the unit at the specified date (in this case, first week of June), but the supporting products like MapAids, Evaluations, etc. will have documents posted according to the support date of August 24. This means that week 1 of Evaluations, MapAids, etc. will be available to you as if your first week of school is August 24.

Is that clear as mud? Smiler

Hi!

For those of us paper-loving people, is there the possibility that redesign Y4 will also have a pre-order printed version available in the next year or two?

Thanks,
Carol

Hi Carol,
For 2009, we can't promise professional off-set printing. However, we are finding good response as people realize that having DE means that you can get a printed Year-Plan, so the answer to your question is yes and no. Smiler

Yes, you can get a printed version (several options for this), although they won't be "pre-order."
No, we won't be offering off-set expensive printing in the foreseeable future.

For what it's worth, I'm a "paper-loving" person too, and I'm SO glad that I can have a fresh crisp copy of any Year-Plan anytime I want it (because of DE)! Smiler

Hi Dana! Thank you for your response. I am VERY thankful that there will be a redesign Y4!!! Purchasing a printed version is my preference, but I will happily work with a DE version if that's what's available. Tapestry of Grace is the heart of our homeschooling. I can't imagine homeschooling with out it!

The Lampstand Press newsletter gave us a start date of Aug. 24 for Unit 1. Do you have any idea at what point Unit 2 will be ready? Will it be 10 weeks later (late October), or will it be sooner since Unit 1 is already done and out? Just wondering for planning purposes.

I don't want to come across as critical with my next comment, so please don't take it that way. I'm aware that you have other customers besides Year 4DE folks, but it has been EXTREMELY frustrating to read all the "great news" for updating Years 1-3, when the unfinished Year 4 is hanging out there. For those of us who have been with you each year for the rollout of Redesign, and are just anxious to have Year 4 so we can "rest" for the next 4 years, it would be nice to see you complete your commitment to the 4-year process before you begin tweaking the wonderful product that is already available for years 1-3. I'm not referring to DE. I understand all the reasons you had to go to DE, I'm referring to what "appears from this end" to be all of your energy going to revamp something that works when the time could be spent finishing Year 4, and THEN going back to overhaul it all.

Hopefully, I'm wrong and you have more human resources than I think and the people responsible for completing Year 4 are not getting constantly interrupted with the changes going on with the other stuff. (I'm praying their minds are not having to constantly shift back and forth - I can't imagine being in the middle of one thing and having to go back and forth.)

So, not a formal complaint. Maybe just an admission on my part that I don't fully understand how ya'll operate, but with all the new releases and the "seemingly related" delays of Year 4, it just gets a little frustrating at times. (Y4 delays could also be lumped in with Y3 Map Aids disk delays, which I will still want v. digital, myself. Now that I have Y1-Y3, I'm not sure why I would want "constant updates" when it would write over the assignments for the books I already have in house for the next cycle?)

Wow! Sorry for the rambling, whining tone. I do appreciate all that ya'll are doing, and if I think about the pace at which ya'll are doing it all I get dizzy. I'm grateful it is you and not me who has to field all the questions while trying to get this stuff out. Thank you so much for all you do.

Just in case it got lost in all of that, my original question was the projected roll out dates for Unit 2, and for that matter 3 and 4 to the extent that they could be projected.

I have been with TOG all through the redesign projects, and I want to say that they have always done a great job of keeping us going through the year. At times, I have had to access things the day I wanted them, and a few times, when I called or emailed when I wanted something right away, they were able to help me (I purposely wrote 'wanted' here instead of 'needed,' as I wanted to Smiler ). I must say that the quality of the curriculum and the way it has helped my children and I develop, learn and grow closer to God has made the inconveniences not important. I must say also that the need to wait and not always know the schedule ahead of time have grown me and my children, as we have needed to be somewhat flexible and trust in the Lord for our family's needs and the timing of our work. I found that it really didn't matter if we changed our schedule to one or two weeks later than I would have wanted, and we found ways to use the time so constructively, I was glad for the change. At the time, I thought to myself that 5 years from now, what difference will a week or two make; but now, looking at last year, when we decided to delay a week or two so that things wouldn't always be so tight, the difference doesn't matter even a month later, and I am actually glad for it.

Sometimes when I am in the middle of day-to-day teaching and managing the household, I lose the eternal (and even the yearly) perspective. I do better when I am having a consistent time with the Lord. Also, this post helped me a lot.

Just wanted to share my heart. I was just studying Romans 8:28 and Isaiah 55:8-9 - God's ways are not our ways, and His ways are always good, I need to learn to trust Him over and over again.

Hi, Susan

This is a reasonable question, and the answer is this: by no means are the updates to the DE interface slowing down for the development team writing Year 4. Different people within LP work on different projects. We are anticipating the release of Y4 Unit 1 Supplements in DE updated formats before the start of school, and Unit 2 week-plan contents are over half written; today I'm finalizing the first draft of Week 15 rhetoric history, for instance. The writing/proofing process for week-plans can't be hurried any faster because each person has to have a certain amount of elapsed time to draft the portions of TOG for which they are responsible and then different people proof and format it. Missing, of course, now, is the old printing delay (used to be about a month!)

Currently (and this can change, mark you) I anticipate that Unit 2 of Year 4 may come available in DE before Labor Day as well, though Unit 2 supplements will NOT be ready by then. We write units first, and then supplements based on unit contents, which is why it's important to note the start date. As the year progresses and you all use Year 4, you catch up to us. We write at about the rate of one week-plan a week (plus about a three week interim between units for finalizing) so that's always the challenge: to produce Units 3 and 4 ahead of the ongoing tide of users. Smiler So far, God has always graced us to stay ahead, and as things stand RIGHT NOW, things are good.

We can always use prayer; we are first and foremost a ministry and, as such, constantly sense the Enemy's opposition to serving you effectively!

HTH! Smiler

Marcia

Hi Marcia, hope all is well!

I'm curious whether you still anticipate Y4 U2 DE to be available before Labor Day? (And now that we're getting closer, if you have a release date).

Thanks!
Eric.
