I have used Classic and now Redesign. It seems that the Classic Teacher notes (for the history thinking and accountabiltiy questions) had the rhetoric students questions with answers listed. The Redesign does not seem to list the rhetoric student questions with answers. It seems I have to hunt through the Teacher Notes to search out an answer. Am I missing something or is this indeed the case? Appreciate some guidance...thank you!

Dear Kelley,

I used Classic for 5 years and am now in my second year of using Redesigned.

I pulled out one of my Classic year plans to compare to my Redesigned year plans and find that the Redesigned actually covers the rhetoric & dialectic accountability and thinking questions much more thoroughly and closely that did the Classic.

The discussion outline does not go in the same order as the student questions, which some students/teachers find frustrating, but this is part of Tapestry's philosophy (Socratic discussion). We have found that, typically, an accountability question will be asked, then a thinking question that follows from that AQ, so the students are jumping back and forth between AQs and TQs.

My R students are learning to answer more "off the top of their heads" rather than reading through their list of answers (which is what they'd prefer to do). Smiler When they are able to do this, our discussions are much more interesting and flow better. My D students are definitely not to this point, yet. They pretty much have to go through, find the question I've asked, and read off their answer. My D students do type up both the question and their answer to their AQs and TQs so they can follow my questions.

Something else to note in the discussion outline is that answers students should have been able to find in their reading are italicized. Answers that you should either deliver to your student via lecture or draw out of them are found in regular print. These differences in print help me know whether or not the answers were in the student readings.

TBH, we've had no difficulties finding information in the readings with the Redesign. It is such a VAST improvement over the Classic.

Blessings,

Dear Susan,
Your following statement is probably where my frustration stems from."The discussion outline does not go in the same order as the student questions, which some students/teachers find frustrating, but this is part of Tapestry's philosophy (Socratic discussion). We have found that, typically, an accountability question will be asked, then a thinking question that follows from that AQ, so the students are jumping back and forth between AQs and TQs."
Of course, my students want to go through their work in the order it is presented, and when the answers are not presented in the same order, their is some frustration on their part and mine as we say "we'll come back to that."
Thank you for comparing the Classic and Redesigned, as I traded mine in when the Redesigned came out. I just do not remember having this same struggle before. Your advice is warmly welcomed. Thank you!

Blessings,
Kelley

Replying late here but speaking from my experience of using the redesign Years 1, 2, and 3, if you are using Year 1, you do have to hunt around for the answers. Years 2 and 3 are much better. I had the same problem you have when we were on Year one.
