Are the topics covered in the redesigned version the same as the classic for each year? I was wondering if it would work to use redesigned for some years and classic for others (for cost issues).

I think it would work. I compared the topic list from classic to redesigned and they matched up really well. This will seem like a terribly long list, but I will try to condense the classic topic list so you can print it out and compare to Y3RD Topics that are listed on that site.
