I thought I read somewhere that literature questions in particular were revised and revamped but then I read something in the brochure that seemed to suggest otherwise.

They were signficantly revised and most, especially at the Rhetoric level but also in lower levels, have been completely redone.

Pam,

My sister gave me her Classic Year 1, and I went through it in some detail, comparing it to the "Go to Egypt" sample, trying to decide whether to spend the money for the upgrade. There are definitely significant improvements to the Dialectic level. Among them:

1) They seem to have significantly reduced the number of questions, narrowing them down to the most important ones . This is a huge plus for us as my dd hates to write and dislikes answering pre-written questions.

2) They've made sure the answers to all the questions are in the primary resources. This was already helpful to us this week when my dd protested that the answer to one of the questions "isn't in there" - I knew it was, so I was able to find it, rather than just saying, "Well, not all the answers are there," and writing it off.

3) Any out-of-print books have been replaced, so all the books are in print.

4) The books recommended for Dialectic level, in my opinion, have been simplified a little. Some of the books from the Classic level were on the heavy side - a bit much for a sixth- or seventh-grader to read, with small print, difficult vocabulary, and lots of pages. Now the history reading is fairly simple, so my daughter can handle reading a couple of chapters and searching through them for answers to questions. The literature reading is more challenging.

I'm sure there are many other improvements, but those in themselves were enough to justify the additional expense for me.

HTH,

Thanks, that was helpful.

Could you give me some examples of books you thought were too heavy in the Classic?
