As I'm planning our new year, I'd like each of my kids to have a little timer with three features:

(1) A countdown timer so they can decide, "I'm going to do this task for ten minutes and stop."

(2) A stopwatch so they can say, "I'm going to see how long it takes me to do this." We already do have stopwatches, so this function is optional.

(3) Multiple, clock-based alarms so they can say, "I need to start my Spanish studies at 8:45, and at 10:30 I have an appointment with Mom, and then at 11:40 I want to put everything away so I can gather everything up for ballet and then eat lunch."

I don't want this to be software, because it should be able to travel around with them as they go about their lives. I want to be able to help them plan this out in the morning as we talk about their plans for the day.

Ideally, it would have a clip so that it could be worn, and a strap so that it can't fall off (like my pedometer has), but that is probably unlikely. My fantasy requirements are that it would also be un-lose-able, even by a second-grader. And it would come in pink, light blue, and green, for my three kids.

It doesn't sound like my (real) needs are that odd, yet I'm having a hard time finding a device that claims to do all this. I have found a couple online that look close, and I am waiting for responses about exactly what they do.

How about a watch? I have one (Timex Expedition) that has a countdown timer, a stopwatch, and three alarms. It's ugly, but I use all the features all the time. I think Timex makes other models that have various colored straps, too.

I purchased a Timex VibraLite 3 for myself, but plan to get one for my ADD daughter. When I've gotten her timers before, she never hears them, and this watch has both an audible alarm and a vibrating alarm. Functions are: two different time settings (both can be either 12 hour or 24 hour), two alarms, stop watch, self-resetting timer. It's a bit pricey but has been a lifesaver.
