Hi everyone! David Somerville here, Creative Director at Lampstand Press. As school wraps up, it's good to know that creativity will be bursting out across the country as you turn your kids out into the sunshine. It's not as though you needed any encouragement to help your kids have fun, but we love making your experience just that much better here at Lampstand Press. That's why we're offering a free Pop Quiz or lapbook (your choice) for the most delightfully edifying idea for how to have some summer fun! Post a reply to this topic by Labor Day, and may the most fun win!

All the best,

David Somerville

Our fun idea is to host a camp-in at home! This weekend we will be going on vacation right in our own home. We will be turning off the ringers on the phone, shutting down the computer and taking out the TV. We will set up our tent right in our living room (you could do it in your backyard if you had the right situation). Our family play games with the kids, go for walks to the park, put on skits and cook-out. It will be a blast disconnecting from the world for 2 days.

Oh, and we are telling friends and family we can't be contacted because were on vacation!

My husband is taking my 3 boys ages 13, 11, and 7 on an unusual camping trip. They are taking our boat and going to camp out on an island on the Potomac River. They are planning on being "Survivor Men" or "Bear Grylls" as they do not bring any food but plan to catch their own fish and cook it. (I am planning on sneaking in some hotdogs and smore fixings in a knapsack just in case. Wink

Hi all Smiler
My daughters and I volunteer at a Therepeutic Equestrian Center - but I think we have more fun than the people we're helping!! We live in the city (think small lot) so this is a treat for us...
We get to play with the horses - grooming, tacking, etc, and gain a ton of knowledge in return (not bad for this city bred girl!). Then we help riders either by leading a horse, or walking alongside a rider that needs extra help/security. My 13yo daughter loves feeding the horses peppermints and carrots, and my 15yo daughter loves interacting with the riders (especially the kids). I just love it all - even when we're dirty and tired afterwards.

My kids and I have been enjoying as many free activities as possible! We watch movies at the library, play at the park in the mornings when it's still cool enough (under 110!), go to a couple different spots where there are water fountains for the kids to play in, and storytime at the library. They also love playing in the sprinklers in our own backyard. This being our first year homeschooling, we've just been enjoying our time together, talking, playing games, reading books, and watching movies. It's so fun!
