My family is moving to Maryland from England this summer. A BIG move!! I have one Rhetoric student and one Dialectic student. My husband will be working with Univ of Md in downtown Baltimore. We will most likely be living in Anne Arundel County. Is there anyone in the area that can advise me on the different state options for homeschooling in MD? I've read the general info from HSLDA but need some more real life info. I have a friend in PG county that works for the county approving the portfolio's and they are very homeschool friendly. She said to go under a church would have more requirements to protect themselves legally.
We lived in Md for the first four years of marriage but have lived elsewhere for the last 15!
Thanks for any help you can provide. Feel free to e-mail me privately. aslans4@yahoo.com

Blessings, Suzie in the UK

Just to clarify, I am not looking for legal advice but just the experience of those who live in the area! Thanks! Suzie

Did you get some input on your question? I know you posted quite a while ago, but I just saw your post today. We currently live in VA, but lived west of Baltimore in 2007 and 2008. I went through the public school system (Carroll County), and I found them to be very supportive of homeschoolers. I brought a portfolio of each child's work to a review 2x/year and met with the reviewer for about an hour each time. There were no issues with the work the kids were doing, and the reviewer was very helpful in letting me know about resources and educational opportunities in the area.

Feel free to pm me (sandsmertz@gmail.com) if you have more specific questions.

Thanks!

Shelly
