Hi, we just ended our 4th year of homeschooling, all with TOG :-) My R son (entering 11th grade) would like to do history at an honors level. I know this is addressed somewhere but can't seem to find it. Can someone tell me generally how honors credit would be assigned using TOG? Thank you!

Grayce,

TOG as written IS honors... whatever. History, Literature, etc. at the rhetoric level. Check out the Credits document on the Loom for more on how to figure credits with TOG.

Way to go: your son sounds like a winner!

Marcia

Wow, this is why I love TOG. Thank you, Marcia, for such a quick response and on a Saturday no less! You guys are amazing. Would he need to do all the reading (core plus supplement)for me to assign the honors credit? And...one more question before I jet over to the Loom..how about TOG fitting the criteria for AP courses? Thanks again for the personal touch you bring to a fantastic curriculum.

Hello Grayce!

Chiming in here from California! I am part of an umbrella school, and our school requires a cumulative end of year final for honors classes. I had my guys do the unit tests for units 3 and 4 and a modified final for year 3 history to ensure the honors credit. (I modified the final because they did all three exams over three days - what troopers!) All that to say, if you are going to do honors credits be sure to get the evaluations!
Blessings,
April

thank you April, VERY helpful. We belong to an umbrella school too and I will check in with them on that. Can I use Evaluations with Classic Year 3?

Hello again!
Marcia or Dana would have to give the final word, but I don't think Evaluations would work as well with Classic ans with Redesign (for which they were developed). However, seeing the format would give you a framework to play with. You could use what meshes best with what you have covered and tweak some questions to better fit what you want them to know. Just be sure to review with your kids - don't just spring a cumulative test on them! Plus, reviewing is fun because you get to see what interesting details they remember. To sum up, I would get the Evaluations, even with Classic, but be prepared to adjust to fit what you have studied specifically.
Blessings,
April
