This may be strange but I'm thinking about skipping a unit (yr3 unit 4) so I can move on to year 4 during my oldest son's 8th grade year this year.

No real problem skipping the work of it. If you've purchased it, I'd go through the discussion outlines, and possibly have him read the text book Alternate Reading assignments, so that he doesn't loose the flow of the Civil War era. Many families feel like they have DONE the Civil War, and for D's, I'm pretty sure that there are no crucial connections to be made (unlike R's, btw).

Hmmm. When I skimmed Unit 4 Yr3 I thought it was done with the civil war by then. Does that unit still cover the Civil war or the aftermath more?

Hi Sue,
I think Marcia must have read your post as year 3 unit 3. Unit 4 is pretty important, at least for R students. If you are skipping it, I would make sure your student, whatever level, does the summer reading and is familiar with maps of colonial Africa, etc. Also, make sure your student knows about the Presidents during that era. Hope this helps! Blessings, April |
