(This is written by Lynne's son, Jacob.)

In literature, there are two different kinds of love: the "modern" love, and the pre-enlightenment love. One of the things that romanticism focuses on (and realism doesn't) is "romantic" love. However, they never really go into detail on what specifically they mean.

I'm looking at the latest Poetics document, page 82. If the page numbers have changed, then look for section V.C.1., "Pendulum Swinging".

I'm not really sure what you're looking for yet, Jacob. Can you clarify or elaborate on your question? Thanks!

Sorry for not explaining myself well. I am looking for a definition of "romantic love" in the context of Romanticism.

Hmmm.... well, I think there's a footnote on that somewhere in the Teacher's Notes, but basically romantic love is just defined as the kind of love that is between lovers---you know, the kind you see between engaged or married people. The technical term for this kind of love is "erotic love"---but people have come to call it "romantic love." However, romantic/erotic not a special kind of love that is just for Romanticism: people have been writing about it throughout human history. :-)

Does that help a little more?

Christy
