At Amazon, a few Unit 3 books are almost out of stock, temporarily out of stock or not being reordered (perhaps they're going out of print?). Even the used ones are quite expensive. Do you have recommended replacements for:

America in the Time of Abraham Lincoln (LG Hist)
America in the Time of Sitting Bull (UG History)
Science Fiction Pioneer: Jules Verne (UG Lit)

Thanks for checking!

Wow! The Sitting Bull book is really expensive! Rainbow Resource has the Lincoln book for $6.95. Hopefully, there will be a substitute for the other one.

Dana,
As I'm going thru my list, I also noticed that the book on Ely Parker is rather expensive and the paperback is out of print. I got the list of alternates off the Loom and I do have several from the list. However, you cannot really tell which books are substitutes for which weeks. What would be a substitute for the Ely Parker book?
Thanks,
Laura

Hi ladies,
Both America in the Time of Sitting Bull and America in the Time of Abraham Lincoln should be available again fairly soon in paperback format, according to the publisher.

I'm seeing that the Jules Verne book is now out of print, so I'll need to figure out what to do about that. It's the last week in the unit, if that helps any.

The Ely Parker book...it's for in-depth for two weeks and it won't be bad if you don't use it. It would make one week be particularly light, but you could fill in with library books about the Civil War in general if you'd like.

Hope this helps some...

Thanks Dana! I'll wait on ordering those two books and see what you come up with for a Jules Verne replacement. I have a bunch of Civil War books on our shelves and think I'll use those instead of the Ely Parker book.
Thanks again!

Thank you so much for the help on these books everyone--so glad the "America in the TIme of..." series is not going out of print--we love the Lewis and Clark one we have!

God bless,

Hi there,
Instead of the Jules Verne book, we will be using Seabird by Holling Clancy Holling. If by chance you bought the Verne book, please feel free to go ahead and read it.

We'll be switching the books on the Bookshelf today. Please be aware that this one isn't used until the last week of the unit.

I have again received word that the America in the Time Of... series is back in print in paperback form, so I feel pretty confident that Amazon will have them soon.

Blessings,

Dana,
Is the Seabird book a read-aloud or just an UG lit book like Jules Verne?? It's listed there on the Bookshelf, but it looks like there are already 9 other weeks of read-alouds listed as well.
Thanks,
Laura

Dana,
Sorry-I was wrong in my last post. Actually, the SEabird book say "literature" for its description, but it comes up under the Read-Aloud category when you do a Bookshelf search of Y3 by unit. Must be a glitch somewhere in the system.

Hi Laura,
Yes, it's definitely literature, and is definitely currently in the wrong place. Looks like we just forgot that last step of putting it in the right category on the chart. We'll work on that right away; thanks for pointing that out! Smiler

Hi,

I'm a little ahead in Year 3 I think, and will need the Abraham in the Time of A. Lincoln next week. Do you have any suggestion for a replacement since Amazon doesn't have the new printing stocked yet?

Thanks so much,
Stephanie

I was able to find the Am. in the Time of A. Lincoln book at half.com, I think, & got it in about a week. Price was maybe $7-10? I forget, but it was reasonable, even with shipping.

I just checked & it's out at half.com, but books-a-million apparently has it in stock for $8.90 in paperback.
