A fellow home educator is getting a new liver today! She is 11. She was supposed to go into surgery at 10 a.m. but it was held off longer because the other little child did not die as quickly as anticipated. Pray for those poor parents!

Now if you could pray for Destinee to have STRENGTH (she just had chemo last week) and for God to move those Dr.'s hands in amazing ways to do an awesome job on removing the diseased liver and attaching this new little healthy liver!

Destinee came out of surgery about 8 p.m. last night. The surgeons found two tumors in her liver and took a lymph node out to test. I'm thinking they thought it was only one tumor in her liver before now so I don't know what the extra stuff means. Could be less favorable. Pray as the Dr.'s come to the next "best plan" and as Destinee recovers from surgery. She will be in PICU for another 3-4 days. Then the normal hospital rooms for about 2 weeks.

Destinee is in the hospital for 1 of 3 post transplant chemo treatments. She will have one a month if she follows the schedule she had before the transplant. She is doing amazingly well!

Her family has had to make major adjustments since she came home because the Dr.'s are purposely keeping her immune system as low as possible so she won't reject her new liver. The whole family is in "isolation" mode for 4 months. I'm not even sure if dad can go to work but I imagine maybe if he showers immediately?.... She is one of 9 siblings with 6 at home currently(mostly girls) living in a tiny 3 bedroom home. Because of the transplant she has to have her own room and the rest of the family has to "gown up" to come in the room for the next 4 months.

The Dr. has said she will need to have her own room on a long term basis, too. For now her only brother at home is sleeping in her spot in the girls' room. They need to add a small bedroom fairly soon, though, since he is 10 and one of the youngest kids. (Modesty, etc. issues.)

Pray that the family would smoothly handle the big changes in the way things are done! Also pray for Destinee's parents as the plan a do it yourself add on. That they would get quick approvals, lots of qualified help and adequate funding to pay for the add on. (On top of all the medical bills!)

We will be praying too! Please continue to update. Is there anyone locally who can help them or donate materials for this project?

Yes, there are several folks who can help with donations of money/materials! And some qualified helpers on the building front, too!
