This is our first year with TOG, and I'm trying to start off well prepared. I was just looking over Week 1 activities, and am excited about doing a salt map with my UG/LG children. I was wondering what most people do with the list of vocabulary words (geography terms) that they are supposed to be familiar enough with to recreate on their salt maps. Do you just have your children look each up in the dictionary,or maybe use a children's atlas to help them become familiar with the terms?

Thanks in advance for any responses!

We just did this 2 weeks ago. We made vocabulary flashcards, located at http://highland.hitcho.com.au/tog2.htm
This is a Year 2 site, but the Week 1 vocabulary terms are the same. We used this last year for these terms, also. The flashcards have the word, definition and a picture of the actual geographical feature. Excellent tool! I printed out 1 set for each child and let them cut them apart. We kept them in a ziploc bag for a couple of weeks and reviewed daily. I even did a matching quiz for them. They loved it!

Excellent!! Thank you so much. This sounds like the perfect way to tackle this for my kids as well.
