I am having some trouble knowing what grading strategy to use to evaluate a college application essay. Since the topic "assigned" by the college was of a more personal nature, I'm not sure how well it fits in the analytical essay genre. I've appreciated having the rubrics in Writing Aids for evaluating, and would like to use one for this assignment, but am not sure which one to use.
Thanks!
Bonnie

Hi Bonnie,
I used the one for analytical essays, although the facts are definitely of a personal nature. The student can "prove" why he felt that community service helped him grow as a person, or why homeschooling gave him more opportunities, or how he think the college will benefit him in the future.

Just the way I did it...

like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.
I will proclaim the name of the Lord.
Oh, praise the greatness of our God!"
