Hi,
I am just starting out with TOG...converting from Sonlight because my 5th child is starting school this year. I really like the sample schedule provided in the 3 week sample from the website. Is there anything like that on the Loom? I know I can go through all the material picking and choosing myself, but I am a firm believer in not re-inventing the wheel. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

We've used TOG for 3 yrs (beginning 4th yr this yr with 9 & 13 yo).
I'm not aware of a daily schedule on the Loom, but at the beginning of each week, I write down what is expected (for TOG assignments) for the week. 13 yo is able to pace it out himself. 9 yo does approx. 1/4 of work ea. day. Thus, we've found we don't really need a precise schedule. We do, however, generally reserve Fridays for discussions/quizzes, etc. Most of the bulk of academics are done in mornings, with anything not finished or any special projects done in afternoons.
Also, there are book suggestions with appropriate chapter or page #s on left page of book assignments in ea. week plan for ea. level (in redesign). The books listed on left page are sort of the core books, with the right page containing alternate or optional selections.
Hope this helps.

I came over from SL, too. There is not any daily schedule in TOG, but having used SL, I found it easy to create one. I already had a daily spreadsheet, so I just sit down briefly on Monday and schedule out my UG child's work.

I took seriously TOG's suggest to let my then 11 yo schedule his D level work. At first I had to help him with that, but two years later, he's a whiz at scheduling. I did create a special weekly planner page for him to use each week, but really any student planner would work.

Hello Chris,

I just wanted to take a minute to tell you where you can find that assignment chart. I started using TOG last year and I had the same question. Anyways, go to the TOG website and click on "The Loom". On the left hand side of your screen, you will see an option for assignment charts. Click on that and then you will see an option called "assignment charts for any level". That should be the chart you are looking for. Once you pull it up, you should be able to print it off at home. I agree with not re-inventing the wheel. That particular assignment chart works great for me.

Blessings to you!!

Chris, I decided to have a daily focus for each week of Tapestry instead of doing daily assignments. This has helped give me more of the grab and go feel I need to get right to teaching and the kids right to learning. We do:

Friday - Introduction and Reading Assignments

They read independently over the weekend. Their books have post it notes on them and they are to read their #1 books first followed by their #2s and #3s throughout the week. In our home the #1s are the long term spine type books. Their #2s are information and biography and #3 is for literature. By Monday they're ready for written work.

Monday - Mapwork, Timeline, Encyclopedia Research, Begin Outlining or Narration

Tuesday - Discussion for olders, Cut and paste or other for youngers

Wednesday - Writing Assignments from Mom, Pre-writing

Thursday - Rough Drafts ready to hand in on Friday
