Hi - thinking about which history curriculum to use. Our oldest is currently using SL K, but are seeking a multi-level curriculum that includes US History. TOG looks great, but I have a couple questions...
1. I would like to buy Y1U1 to test, but am unclear what to buy. I think I need to buy: Y1U1 books from Bookshelf Central for Y1U1, printed/DE unit for Y1U1, Bonus Bundle items as needed. Is the Loom included in any of these? Is the Full Year plan just the sum of the four printed/DE units? Do I have this right? This part is unfortunately confusing. 2. Does anyone have advice on DE vs. print? 3. What is the redesign? Are all items being sold online redesigned? Thanks and God bless! |

Yes, The Loom will come with just one unit. It will cover only that one unit plus the year's introduction. And yes the year is just the sum of four units. If the print versions exists independently (in some years and units it does not) then you will get everything that was in that unit at the time of printing plus The Loom which will allow you to print more copies of student activity pages. DE is all computerized, you decide what to print, but you've got everything that was in the printed unit. The advantage to DE is that over time it will be updated whereas the printed version will not. Since we are dealing with history this isn't as big an updating as if we were dealing with computer technology. Also, print versions will be kept up to date in terms of books that go out of print so if you use Year One this year with a D level student and in four years you find the book used at the R level is out of print (OOP) this will be updated on line for you to a new in print book. Yes, redesign is an update of the original version of TOG. Pat "The first qualification for judging any piece of workmanship from a corkscrew to a cathedral is to know what it is — what it was intended to do and how it is meant to be used." C.S. Lewis "One of the major flaws in some forms of reader-response criticism is that they tend to ignore the compact between author and audience, overlook that the author had some purpose and information to convey when he wrote the document, and assume that it is the reader who can and must decide what sorts of things, including what sort of meaning, one can derive from a text." I just wanted to add, if you want to test TOG you can do so by printing the 3-week sample of either Year 1 or Year 2!
