Hi -- I am going to start TOG this fall w/LG dd (and a preschooler along for the ride!)

I talked w/a friend who has TOG and she told me she was frustrated w/the evaluations -- that some of the questions were not covered in their readings. For her, it was to the point where she wasn't going to purchase them again.

Have other people experienced this problem? Or was her experience unique?

I should mention that she is using Classic not Redesigned TOG. (I don't know if her evaluations matched her version -- could that be the problem?) I am of course going to purchase the Redesigned version.

I really appreciate any input on this. It will actually determine whether I buy a bundle or just individual items.

As far as I am aware, the evaluations are keyed to the redesigned years of TOG. I have purchased them for my R students and found them to be very helpful at that level. Your friend is probably experiencing frustration because she is using products that are not designed for each other. If you only have LG students, is there a reason why you would need evaluations? We are part of an umbrella school that needs to see such documentation, but with little ones, I don't think I would bother unless required by some outside source. Of course, some children love to do project sheets, etc, and if your students enjoy them , go for it! Just be sure to use the evaluations with the redesigned TOG!

Thanks April! Yes, dd actually enjoys extra project sheets, tests, etc. She typically does well on tests. She also loves the stickers or other small rewards I give her when she does well. (I have a "wall of fame" bulletin board where I post exceptionally well-done assignments/tests.)

I am glad to know you haven't had trouble with the evaluations. It's probably as I suspected -- that the Redesigned evaluations don't always match the Classic curriculum. So it shouldn't be a problem for me.

Any other experiences?

Nothing dramatic here. I used them this year with Year Two and a D level student. I did not have him do more than 1/3 of them (I chose a mix of test types). He had no problems with them.
