Ok, I tried using TOG a couple of years ago, but fizzled out. I was pregnant and tired and just didn't want to put forth the time and effort to plan and make it work for us. I have always regretted my decision to sell my Year 1 materials, but I didn't really have a choice at the time because we needed the money to get another curriculum.
Fast forward - now I am ready to try again and give it my all! I WILL and MUST suceed this time! Last time, both boys were doing LG and younger wasn't reading yet. Now my oldest son is going to do UG and I will do some of his independednt reading as Read-alouds to keep him from being overwhelmed. I am having a hard time deciding what level of writing assignments to do with him. He has finished a 2nd grade english curriculum (BJU Press) and we really haven't done much grammar since. We didn't do most of the writing chapters, but he has learned about writing paragraphs through notebooking. He has done virtually NO independent writing, I have guided him through everything. He does love to write short little stories and illustrate them, then staple pages into a book. His handwriting and spelling are awful, but he has very good grammar skills. I am definitely using Easy Grammar 3 with him. I am afraid if I use level 2 writing, it will be too easy on him, but I also don't want it to be so challenging to him that it frustrates him. He is 9 (we didnt really do grade levels, they are different levels in every subject). Any input or suggestions that might help me to decide? |

Hi!
You can always go back and forth between levels 2 and 3. Also, at level 3, you could have him dictate his assignments to you while you type them up. Print them out, and then work together on revising them. I used this procedure with one of my children with much success. You sound like you are on the right track. HTH!
