I am very interested in TOG. With one concern is there maybe another option other then Story of the World? Is it a main part of the program? Any help would be greatly accepted.

Story of the World is not the main text so if you use the TOG recommendations, you will not use it.

"One of the major flaws in some forms of reader-response criticism is that they tend to ignore the compact between author and audience, overlook that the author had some purpose and information to convey when he wrote the document, and assume that it is the reader who can and must decide what sorts of things, including what sort of meaning, one can derive from a text."

We add SOTW, listening each week before we start our reading. It works great for all levels, even moms.

We've added SOTW all 4 years. It is a nice supplement, not a main course. I am in the Year 1 redesign now and it does give SOTW as an alternate reading. When you are short of time or had a busy week SOTW is helpful to give you an overview. HTH!!

Just to reiterate what the other posters have said, the TOG primary reading list does not include SOTW at all. The sources are varied and many are available at my local library. TOG offers an alternate reading list in case you can't obtain the primary resources easily or want other options. SOTW is listed there, as an alternate resource, but is not part of the main TOG curriculum. (Or even the alternate list, if you kids are above elementary grades.) Hope this helps!
