As my online name implies, I'm a hs mom to one child. I am an older mom with grown children, several grandchildren and one dear little late in life surprise. Our 10 yo dd is a precious gift and a ray of sunshine.

This will be our third year hs'ing, and it has been great. Up until this year I have mostly followed the Well Trained Mind model, combined with curriculum from the Classical Christian school where I teach art part-time. This will be the first year to go in sequential history though, which will be a wonderful change.

I was excited to discover TOG, as my dd loves unit studies with hands on projects, and I want to give her a good, solid foundation in history, literature and the arts. As I am getting acquainted with curriculum I have just purchased I feel a bit overwhelmed -- but I know it is the right choice for us. I am so glad for this forum and the resources available on the website. There is so much information to cover, but thankfully I have the summer to read and study before we begin 5th grade.

Blessings,
Lucinda

Hi, Lucinda,

I'm a "returning" TOG'er (we used a different curriculum, but I was not as accountable as I should have been), so I'm returning to TOG with my only son...we, too, are older parents, and we're in the middle of a cross-country move for August, so I'm trying to get as much ready as I can before the next hockey season begins (he plays Midget AAA, and he's got to choose from three teams in Michigan next year...)

Linda in NM (not soon enough to be Michigan!)

Hi Linda! I'm so glad to get a response on the forums. We should stay in touch, shouldn't we? Older moms with one homeschooled child might be hard to find out there!

Have you joined any online TOG groups? I would like to find a group that is active that I can turn to for input and advice now and then.

Blessings,
Lucinda

Yeah, we're sort of a small subset of the homeschooling community, no? I've found the TOG yahoo groups--there's one called "Loose Threads," (which I haven't joined), and one specific to each year (Y2, which I have joined). Quite useful.
