I have a student who will be transitioning this year from D to R. He is technically 9th grade and we are in Y2. I'm trying to draw up course contracts and figure out my grading scales.

In following some of the threads regarding grading, I've heard mention of grading rubrics. Is there a document out there, if so, where do I find it?

I've noticed the Loom has grading advice for many of the individual writing assignments, but is there an overall guideline I could be following with the writing?

Looking forward to hearing from someone -

Hi JJ,
There are quite a few grading rubrics for writing in Writing Aids. Did you purchase that? If not, do an Internet search for "essay grading rubrics" or "report grading rubrics" (or whatever your genre is) and you'll find loads online.

Dana,

Yes, I have Writing Aids. So the rubrics you refer to are the individual scales for the various writing assignments, right? I have those, I suppose I was wondering about a more general way to gauge his English/Lit grade overall.

I found helpful discussions that led me to a format for his history grades but still haven't solidified the English grading system. Should all of his grade be solely on his writing assignments? I'm thinking there must be a percentage towards reading/SAPs, a portion towards any evaluations he takes and a percentage for the assignments. Which should weigh in more - the finished piece of writing or the evaluations?

FYI, I've ordered the evaluations for Year 2 but have not received my disc yet so I'm not yet familiar with the resources I may find there.

Thanks for your feedback -
