I would love to find something along the lines of Kay Arthur's Precepts bible studies for my 13yo girl. Any hints or ideas? I don't want something that is just "busy" work, but something that really inspires her to read the Bible and internalize it. If I'm missing something great out there, let me know!! thanks!

Precept Ministries has several different levels of inductive Bible Studies available besides the full blown Precept Upon Precept Studies. One of the others may suit your needs.

In and Out tracks right along with the Precept materials, but at a lighter level. I have been involved with studies where middle school and high school aged home school students participated in our studies using with this manual. (Time commitment: 1-3 hours per week, designed for group discussion with PUP)

Of course there is the children's Discover 4 Yourself Series, which is suitable for her age.

The New Inductive Study Series contains small "Navigator" type books covering 2 to 3 books of the bible under 1 cover. These book surveys studies can be used in a reasonable, but profitable timeframe. (Time commitment: about 15 minutes per day - if you don't get engrossed! Discussion questions included)

40 Minute Bible Studies - Topical, no homework studies lasting 6 weeks each. (40 minute discussion)

LORD Series - Also topical (Time commitment: 1-3 hours per week, discussion questions included)

There are also a couple of guided books on the Names of God, Prayer, Learning to Study and Learning to Pray. All are very good resources.

Another free option: You may also want to go to the site and have your daughter listen to a Precepts for Life with the free study guide. The broadcasts are on Oneplace.com via podcast & any of the other media players. These files can be downloaded and the printed transcript is also available for download. Currently the study is Romans. The archives contain the message to the churches in Revelations, Matthew, Resurrection, Philippians, 1 Samuel and a few others.(all the way back to 1/19).

None of these studies completely overlap each other. You can do one Precept course under one series, then approach the same book from another series and gain greater and different insights.

Forgive the long discourse, but this is another one of my passion. About 15 years ago, Precept Ministries changed my life...but that's another story.

Be blessed

thanks so much for your input, educaring!! I have done the inductive studies and love, love them!! I even got the Inductive Bible...so I wouldn't mind doing one of those with her. I just was wondering if there were ones specific to her age group. You have given me wonderful info. Thanks!!

You are very welcome, sally aka cellomom

I have seen examples of children learning this method.

In my original Precept Training Class in Chattanooga, there was a 10-year-old named Aaron who sat and learned the inductive study method with a room full of adults. Can you image what a motivation this little boy's presence was for the rest of us? Aaron will always remind me that children can do this.

Now that Precept has so many more tools, it is so much easier.

If there is any other way I can help, please let me know.

If you are interested in doing a "family" oriented study and there is a class in your area, consider Bible Study Fellowship International (BSF). Admittedly, I am a little biased since I am a Children's Leader for Level 4 (Grades 7 & 8), however, it has provided an opportunity for my ds to study the Bible one night a week. He is given weekly questions which are broken up to be answered day by day, then on class night the students share their answers, have a truly Bible based learning activity, 20-25 minute age oriented Bible lesson on what they studied and a closing activity which depending upon age could be memory verses, basic truths of the Bible (discussing what the world thinks and what the Bible says), or attributes of God. There is no charge for the class (only free will offerings) and are men only, women only, or young adult 18 - 30 singles. The parents and students cover exactly the same material each day and are designed to be used as an opportunity for the parent and student to work together. We are studying Matthew for the entire school year currently. It is very regimented and an excellent way to learn and apply acripture.
