I'm wondering if it's necessary to school 5 days a week. I've been involved with something else one day a week and we don't get too much school done on that day.

If you and your kiddos can get it all done in 4 days, go for it! As my guys have gotten older (going into 8th and 10th) I have found it difficult to compress the time required to get it all done, but when they were younger they would often double up assignments to get a free day. Enjoy your year!

I started a 4 day week about 6 years ago and it's worked well. We have longer days those 4 days and then I schedule my dr./dentist, etc. appts. for the 5th day, if at all poss. It's not a perfect sys., but it works if you're disciplined.

I agree that it can work, and we did it for years . . . until my kids hit 10th grade. At that point, they really needed all five days or there wasn't enough time to finish (without doing 10 hour days!).

I, on the other hand, schedule a half day on Fridays for myself, and the kids work independently.

We do about 4 1/2 days a week now. We have a local co-op that we go to on Tuesdays, so that is our "light" day. Luckily, dd gets to do all her science experiments at co-op, so that shortens the length of all the other days, too. Woohoo!

We have also found that if we knuckle down and really get motivated, we can get it all done in just 4, but that level of motivation doesn't happen every week.

I also do four days a week, but I can see how we'll have to add that extra day in the next few years as my oldest moves into the rhetoric stage. We go to a friend's home and sew and do other crafts every other week and have for several years. and last year we did intermittent testing on that off Friday. We have also used it to "get it together" with our home!!
