My dd (13 and 7th grade) has done D work for Year 1. She has no trouble with the readings at all. And that is with me assigning everything! She is my first born and therefore my achiever. (We won't talk about her siblings here.
I am thinking of mixing in some Rhetoric with the D level for her beginning in the fall with Year 2. Specifically, I have looked at the "The Loom: Credits for Redesigned Year 2", and I see that she can earn a 1/2 credit for Fine Arts if she completes all the R assignments and does additional hands-on projects culled from the D assignments. I think this might be a good year to do this because I will be planning hands-on projects for my younger children which she loves to participate in, and we will get our "feet wet" earning part of a high school credit. I am now understanding that I don't need to and probably shouldn't assign everything like I did this past year; so I'm wondering what I should leave off for Year 2, especially since we are going to focus on Fine Arts a little more in order to earn that 1/2 credit. Any suggestions or thoughts? Please feel free to weigh in. Should I give this a try? Or just stick to all D for one more year? Thanks. Grace & Peace, Ellen |

I'll be starting my eldest in R this coming fall. I would recommend you look through the discussion notes for Unit 1 of the Year plan you are using for next year to see if you think she can handle it or not. I'm doing this right now and realizing there is a lot more there than I thought there was, and I'm sure I'll be cutting some things until he becomes accustomed to the higher expectations.
