After months of searching for an adequate substitute for The British Empire and Queen Victoria, which is a multi-unit dialectic history book, we have finally found a title that is sufficient, in-print, and available for purchase in the United States! It is available at Bookshelf Central and the information for your assignments can be found on the Loom under the Year 3 Book Updates Chart.

The replacement title is Queen Victoria, by Elizabeth Longford, and all of the questions posed in the Student Activity Pages can be answered with this book. It reads like a narrative, unlike The British Empire and Queen Victoria, and provides very interesting reading, although the vocabulary is a more elevated. There are a couple of weeks in which the OOP title was assigned and this one won’t be, and vice versa. However, have confidence that this provides the thorough coverage that you need. Here are the assignments that you can pencil in until the next DE update.

Week 13: chapter 1
Week 14: chapter 2
Week 17: Move the assignment from Abraham Lincoln’s World, p. 177-179 that is currently in Week 13 to Week 17. This information is about the Irish potato famine and is NOT in the new book.
Week 18: no assignment
Week 19: p. 27-31 (stop at break in text)
Week 20: p. 31-47 (stop after first full paragraph)
Week 22: p. 47-51
Week 24: chapter 5
Week 27: chapter 6
Week 33: chapter 7

NOTE the following warnings:

Week 18 Glance: There is a curse word on p. 31 of Queen Victoria, by Elizabeth Longford.

Week 19 Glance: You’ll find a crude joke at the bottom of p. 38 of Queen Victoria, by Elizabeth Longford. There is mention of menopause on p. 41.

Week 23 Glance: Pages 61-63 of Queen Victoria, by Elizabeth Longford, talk about the rumor of Victoria having had a love affair, although there is no graphic information disclosed. Preread this if it is a concern.

Week 26 Glance: Page 88 of Queen Victoria, by Elizabeth Longford, again mentions the rumor of the same love affair.

Very truly His,
