For those that are assigning historical atlas work with your D and R students, do you create a new one each year, a new divider for the same maps,or just date the work and create a new base page when map work is assigned again? After a while, the transparencies are "muddied" with all the info stacked over them.

Hi Pam,
Personally, we chose just a couple of countries and/or continents for which to make the transparency project each year. I chose to assign the ones that I thought would reinforce learning for my boys. So, in Year 2, we waited until the end of the year and did a United States one of the colonies, and in Year 3, added the Louisiana Purchase to it, started dividing out the states, etc. All in all, we probably had 5 or so transparencies on top.

During Year 2, we began our Europe transparency project with Charlemagne and followed the progress and formation of various nation-states. Again, all in all, we ended up with abouat 5 transparencies on top.

That's about all we did. As my boys' workload increased, there were many other things to learn that required a good deal more time, so we didn't pursue continuing the project.

If you do chose to continue it, I would suggest deciding on a few countries/continents and how many transparencies to put on top before you make a divider.

That makes sense. In the past years, I just made them plot every geography assignment. Where it was a great way for them to learn geography, the final project got a bit garbled with the volume of information.
