Hi,

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't find an answer. I apologize if this is a frequently asked questions. I am considering beginning TOG with a 15yos for next year. Beginning with Y3U3 makes the most sense given what we've already studied. Would this be a problem?

I understand that many people have done this and it has worked for them. There are some things you might want to think about, though.

The questions for history and for literature are deliberately kept simpler at the beginning of the year, to allow a transition time for students new to the level. You will lose that by starting in the middle of the year. I don't know how much of a problem this would be to you, but rhetoric level is challenging in any case.

Starting at the beginning of the year (with unit 1) might give you a gentler introduction - not only because you'll be starting with unit 1, but also because the material has been recently covered. One 9th-grade member of our co-op this year had just finished a study of the 19th century last year, but decided to go ahead and join our co-op anyway despite the repetition. She doesn't seem to have found it repetitive at all - the focus is so very different from what she'd done before. So that's something to consider.
