Hello everyone. This is my first year using TOG and I am thrilled. I am stumped, however. . .how does one complete all 36 weeks in a Sept. to June school year or in other words, 172 days? Thanks for your help. I am sure I will be back often to pick as many brains as possible.
Sincerely, Breta Schutte |

Hi Breta,
Most states require 180 days in a school year, which is 36 weeks. I've personally always been able to complete it by sitting down before we start school with a calendar in hand. I then determine when I want to finish and work backward. How long do I want for spring break? Christmas/New Years? Thanksgiving? any other fall break? Then I see when I have to begin in order to fit in all of those breaks and end with my goal. When my kids were younger, I always added in one or two weeks in the event of sickness or the sudden camping trip that my husband decided we should take. Hope this helps! Dana C. in TN "Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants. I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God!" Deut. 32:2-4 |

I've never had a problem fitting in 36 weeks of instruction in the school year. I just counted the total number of weeks from September through May and they add up to 39. You could take three weeks off for holidays and such and still fit in 36 weeks. Many of us start at the end of August and go through the first week of June so we can have extra time off during the year.
