Hi,

After having researched TOG, I think it will be a great fit for my family. My dds will be K, 2nd, 4th next year. What would you recommend in addition (spelling, grammar, etc.) for my 5 yr old? Also, what would I need to add for the older ones?

Thank you! I am really excited to get started.

Aloha!

Hi Jo!

For my Kinder-kid, I used Phonics Pathways and Math U See in addition to TOG. Really at that age, it should be light. I think the primary learning is by osmosis if you have older children. I would not put too much academic pressure on a 5yo. The literature selections are great read alouds and the hands on projects make learning more interesting for the wiggly-giggly kid, as well as the scholarly kid!

HTH, welcome to TOG!

Thank you for the reminder Pammy. I sometimes forget that she is just 5 years old.

I'll have to start looking at grammar programs. My dd can read but still needs to work on her handwriting.

I actually thought I was finished with searching through curriculum. Eeker

Aloha!

I would not do spelling with a 5 year old, yet. For a low pressure, fun handwriting program, I recommend "Handwriting without Tears" with their fun manipulatives. You are only supposed to work on it for a few minutes each day, which I love. I think kids get burned in ps when they have to write sentence after sentence at that age!

We liked Math U See for that age, and Sing, Spell, Read and Write for phonics and reading instruction. But we took it really slooooww at 5 and had really short days.
