I'm noticing that there is a shorter amount of time for my R students to complete the quizzes this year. The essay is only 20 minutes instead of last year's 40 (I think). Just curious to know why the time constraints are shorter. Are the questions considered to be less involved??

Thanks, Pam

Hi, Pam,
Both for Evaluations 1 and Evaluations 2, our standard essay length has been 20 minutes, though some quizzes will vary if the question is more lengthy or if the format changes. We try to give clues to the essay organization in the questions, so that the student can quickly recognize the form that the question is asking for and give just the information that answers the question. If your student is having trouble finishing in time, you may want to check whether he or she is giving too many details or is having a hard time organizing the essay. Also, please feel free to extend the essay time by 5 or 10 minutes, if you think your student needs it! I hope this helps, and please let us know if there are any other ways that we can serve you as you are giving exams.
Blessings,
Brittainy

I must have only noticed the few 40 minute essays last year, or paid attention to the Unit Evaluations in timing. Thanks for clearing this up. My older student has no problem with the time limits, but my new highschooler is still struggling to get it together. We'll work to the 20 minute constraints!

Again, thanks! Pam

Hi! You mentioned that your "new" highschooler is struggling with the 20 minute time constraint for the R essay quiz. I would encourage you to feel free to adjust the time as your student "learns" how to take this type of evaluation.(Even tweak the essay question itself, if needed!) If you haven't read the Evaluations Introducion, check it out. It contains helpful suggestions as you approach the R quizzes, particularly the essay. -Julie
