I have Norton Masterpieces rather than West. Lit. book - can anyone please give us the actual parts of Don Quixote that are covered, since my page numbers will not match the schedule's?

In the Norton Anthology of Western Literature students are assigned chapters 1-5, 7-13, 17, 64-65, 73-74.

Well....I have a new question regarding this. We are actually using a separate volume of the Cervantes, because it looked like our Masterpieces of Norton's didn't have quite enough of the selections.
But, this work is divided into 3 parts and each part starts over with chapter numbers. Is there anyone who could tell me the numbers based on this kind of division? I appreciate the numbers given, but realize they don't help us a lot with this version.

Hi Jo! I'm sorry that you're having this trouble with page numbers. :-/ We only gave Norton pages, partly because there are so many different ways of splitting up Don Quixote and the original doesn't have chapters, etc. So it's hard for us to give you anything better than the Norton numbers. However, let me try to help you out with descriptions of the assigned parts:

Have your students start at the beginning of the story and read up to Don Quixote and Sancho's meeting with the shepherds, whose leader is Ambrosio. They should stop at the beginning of the "Song of Despair." The whole section is 50 pages in Norton.

The other parts that they are supposed to read are at the very end: the adventure of the lions (Chapter 17 in some versions), the section relating Quixote's meeting and duel with the Knight of the White Moon (Chapter 64 in some versions), the section revealing the identity of that same knight (Chapter 65 in some versions), and Don Quixote's homecoming and death (chapters 73-74 in some versions), beginning with his entry into his native village. All these parts add up to about 17 pages in Norton.
