Hi,
I'm wondering if someone could help me with this. I found The Story of Europe and Our Island Story as well as other books online for free. But the pages or chapters don't match up and I'm wondering if anyone else has used the online versions and how you managed it. The Story of the Middle Ages seemed to match up pretty well, but when I started trying to match the other 2 dialectic books to the reading assignments, they didn't seem to match at all. I thought I was going along pretty well figuring it out and then realized that I was left with hundreds of pages in the online version that weren't in the reading assignments. I really didn't want to order these books, (I've already spent a ton of money!)if I don't have to but I don't want to start the year off making everything harder for my son and I. I hope someone can help. Thanks, Wendy |

Hi Wendy,
I too need to keep from buying more books so I'm getting used to matching up by subject rather than page numbers. I go to www.mainlesson.com (the baldwin project) to use their version of The Story of Europe. The chapter names are listed on the left side of the screen, so I just read through them until I find the one that relates to the topic we're studying. I'll skim through the chapter to make sure I don't need to backtrack a few pages and start him a bit earlier, but I've found that doing it this way is relatively painless. I then page down and let him know which page to stop at, and I write the new page numbers down on his copy of the RAC. I realize doing it this way means he skips a lot of the online version, but I'm not worried about it, since at least he's covering the topics he needs to be able to discuss intelligently with me later in the week. It would be nice to have a list already done ahead of time, but for now I'm just doing it as we go along. I also don't know how many different versions there might be of a book and I would think the page numbers might differ with each one, so matching by subject is really the best way to do it for now, other than buying the book. :-) HTH, Veronica |
